Don’t Be Afraid to Break the Unsettling Work Cycle

Steve Jobs once said, “The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle.” All too often, people settle for a job. It may be the one that happened to be available at a time when they desperately needed a paycheck. Sometimes, it’s not the position they wanted, but it’s the one with a paycheck able to cover a little more ground. Either way, they find themselves stuck in their joyless jobs simply because they need the money.

If this sounds a bit like your current work-related routine, it could be negatively affecting more than just your will to roll out of bed in the mornings; furthermore, you’re not alone. An estimated two million Americans walk away from their jobs each month according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, and studies show almost another 75 percent of the nation’s workforce is unhappy with its current employment circumstances. They’re paying the price for their efforts to pay the bills, too.

Any industry-specific physical dangers aside, stress is the primary source of physical health hazards in the workplace. You may not realize it while you’re toiling away to fill your daily duties, but your body tenses up in direct proportion to stress. Do you go home with neck, back and shoulder pain and headaches on a regular basis? If so, stress is probably the culprit. As stress levels surge, so does your risk of high blood pressure, heart disease and heart attacks to name a few serious issues.

On top of physical trauma, stress plays a role in anxiety and depression often stemming from the dead-end feeling and loss of sleep. In short, it kills your soul. Why do so many allow themselves to continue the vicious cycle? For the most part, they simply believe they have no other choice.

Gold Mountain Communications has made breaking the cycle their mission. Negativity runs rampant in many workplaces, but this particular company makes every effort to promote the positive through communication, organization, respect and integrity to name a few of the core values in place. From a fun, positively engaging environment to the fading advantage of weekly pay, their aim is to be the place their employees want to be. By the way, they’re hiring right now.
